What is Egg Freezing?

Egg freezing is a process in which a woman’s eggs are extracted, frozen, and stored as a method to preserve reproductive potential.
Did you know that a woman is born with ~1 mn. eggs and is left with less than 25,000 eggs at the age of 37?

Why should you consider egg freezing?

1. You want to be a mother at a later stage in life
2. You’re at risk of certain health complications which will affect your fertility
The complications and chances of conceiving gradually reduce with age as shown below:

Frequently asked questions

Usually, the younger you are, the better egg count you have, therefore, increasing your chances of pregnancy.

Yes! Your egg count can be measured by an Anti-Mullerian Hormone(AMH) test. Along with giving you your total egg count, results from this test can tell you how many eggs you may be able to freeze if you choose to go through with egg freezing.

Egg-freezing allows you more freedom of when to decide to have children. It doesn’t put a timeline on childbirth. You should consider freezing your eggs if you are around your early 30s and would like children sometime in the future.

During your egg-freezing counseling consult, your gynaecologist will review the results of your AMH test. She will also educate you about egg freezing so you to decide whether or not egg freezing is right for you.

Once you finish a doctor consultation and decide to go through with egg freezing, you will be counselled on the process of egg freezing and taught how to administer your medication injections. The time to do this varied for every woman. The egg freezing cycle itself takes about 14 days.

We recommend that you do not work on the day of retrieval. There may be some soreness in the vagina as well as cramping that occurs for the next few weeks. If you experience any other symptoms like excessive vaginal bleeding, please see a gynaecologist immediately.

As long as you have a few healthy eggs and are not ready to have a baby yet, you should be a good candidate for egg-freezing. However, we highly recommend receiving personalised egg-freezing counselling from one of our experienced and non-judgemental gynaecologists to prepare the best plan for you.
